Is it actually possible to beat the bookie?

Yes, you can beat the bookie, but it is difficult. In a one off event, anyone can win and anyone can lose, including the bookies. Where should novices find out about online betting?

Try our online betting guide and some of the excellent links below. Bet Champion strongly advises that before you invest any money in a strategy or system, test it for a while with paper bets or at least don’t bet very much on it initially.

What are the most successful football betting systems?

There are many different betting and trading strategies available. Follow a teams form, look a their statistics and position in the league and consider relevant injuries. Laying the Draw or laying a short priced team to win are good systems which can be utilised too, as long as you are disciplined and ready to trade out promptly.

There are lots of different bookmakers available and a Google search will help you find their websites.

Paddy Power – A very popular and easy to use website with excellent odds on a regular basis

Betfair – the biggest and the best of all of the exchanges. Regularly offers the best odds available

Ladbrokes – one of the most recognisable names in gambling. They have good odds and an easy to use website

Stan James – simple, straightforward and clean looking website

Pinnacle Sports – one of the lesser-known bookies, at least as far as the mainstream punters are concerned, but they regularly offer excellent odds

William Hill – they have embraced online betting and have a very full website and an easy to use iPhone app too

Bet Victor – they have rebranded after being known as Victor Chandler for many years. The odds offered are consistently good and the website is simple to operate

Coral – another one of the high street mainstays who have flourished online

BetDaq – a rival to Betfair in the betting exchange scene, they are smaller but have a loyal following and provide good laying odds to help with traders who cannot get the odds they need on Betfair

Oddschecker – our first port of call when looking for the best odds online. They are up to date, simple to use and have a huge number of markets where they compare the odds offered by all of the leading online bookmakers.

Oddsportal – similar to Oddschecker, with a large number of markets and bookies to compare

Betfinder – not quite as comprehensive as the first 2 comparison sites, but still helpful because it provides useful commentary and insight into the forthcoming fixtures which helps a punter decide on their bets

Valuechecker – brilliant for finding excellent value bets in markets that you may not have thought about searching in

Once you have located a bet, it is helpful to work out what your likely return will be or what stake you should place to get the best value return.

Oddschecker – this is the best betting calculator around. It is simple and straightforward to use for calculating your bets and trades. There is a hedging calculator and a ditching calculator as well as an accumulator calculator.

Ace Odds – a small, but simple to use calculator with 30 different bets that can be worked out
